Sunday Startup¶
This page tells you how to turn the whole system on before the 9:30am service. Aim to start 45 minutes early so there is time to troubleshoot anything not as expected.
The short version, start on the desk, and work accross
- Turn on the PTZ controller (rocker switch back right, near top)
- Turn on the Rode Caster Video (Red push button once, back right)
- Turn on the A&H QU-5D Mixer (push button back right, near bottom power cable)
- Turn on the computer (push button on front of mini PC in rack)
- Turn on all TVs using the RTI 7" touch screen controller (just below the PC)
- Turn on Foyer amp (switch on front of amp at front of rack)
- Turn on small devices (back of rack, power switch on top power strip)
- Turn on both speakers (light switches on back of rack on the floor)
- Check sound, slides, cameras, then start the livestream at 9:25am.
Follow the full steps below in order. Do not skip steps.
Step 1 — Turn on the PTZ controller¶
The AVKANS Joy Pro Controller is the joystick box that moves the cameras.
- Find the rocker switch at the back right, near the top of the controller.
- Switch it on.

Step 2 — Turn on the RodeCaster Video¶
The RodeCaster Video is the box that mixes the cameras together and sends the livestream to YouTube.
- Press the red push button once — it is at the back right.
- Wait for its screen to load.

Step 3 — Turn on the audio mixer (QU-5D)¶
The Allen & Heath QU-5D is the large mixing desk. It controls all sound.
- Find the push button at the back right, near the bottom power cable.
- Press it to On.
- Wait for the screen to finish loading (about 30–60 seconds).
Always turn the mixer on BEFORE the speakers
If the speakers are already on, switching other gear on can make a loud "pop" through them. The mixer is turned on now (Step 3); the speakers come on last (Step 7).

Step 4 — Turn on the computer¶
The presentation PC is the small Windows mini PC (NUC) in the rack. It runs PowerPoint (the slides) and Bitfocus Companion (the automation that makes the StreamDeck buttons work).
- Press the power button on the front of the mini PC in the rack.
- Wait for Windows to load and log in (it may log in automatically).
- Check the StreamDeck XL (the panel of buttons) lights up.
What the StreamDeck is
The StreamDeck XL is a panel of labelled buttons. Each button runs a job for you — like switching a camera or starting the stream — so you do not have to touch the cameras or computer directly.

Step 5 — Turn on the TVs (RTI touch screen)¶
All the TVs are turned on from the RTI 7" touch screen controller, which sits just below the PC. The TVs are not powered by the rack power strip.
- On the RTI touch screen, choose the option to turn on all TVs.
- Confirm the Front TV Left, Front TV Right and Rear Confidence Monitor come on. (Also turn on the Fireplace TV and Meeting Room TV if those areas are in use.)
➡️ More detail: TV Distribution

Step 6 — Turn on the foyer amplifier¶
The foyer amplifier drives the foyer speakers so people in the foyer can hear the service.
- Find the switch on the front of the amplifier, at the front of the rack.
- Switch it on.
➡️ More detail: Foyer Mix

Step 7 — Turn on the small devices¶
The top power strip powers the three radio microphone receivers, the Apple TV, and the Blu-ray player.
- At the back of the rack, find the power switch on the top power strip.
- Switch it on.
The radio mics need this strip switched on
The three radio microphone receivers are powered from this strip. If it is off, the handheld and headset radio mics (Channels 2, 3 and 4) will not work — even with good batteries. Make sure this step is done before you check the microphones in Step 9.
Where do the cameras get power?
[Mills IT to confirm] — the cameras are not on this strip. Confirm how they are powered (for example, always-on over the network) and add a step here if the operator needs to switch them on.
➡️ More detail: Microphone Guide

Step 8 — Turn on both speakers¶
We use JBL SRX812P powered speakers in the main auditorium.
- Find the two light switches on the back of the rack, near the floor.
- Switch both on.
What you should hear
Nothing yet — that is normal. No microphones are open at this point.
Speakers come on last
Turning the speakers on last (after the mixer in Step 3) avoids a loud "pop" through them.
📷 Screenshot placeholder: speaker light switches (back of rack, near floor).
Step 9 — Run your pre-service checks¶
Before the service starts, check each part works.
| Check | How | Page |
|---|---|---|
| Microphones | Speak into the lectern mic and listen | Microphone Guide |
| Main sound | Confirm you hear the mic in the room | No Sound |
| Slides on TVs | Show a PowerPoint slide, check both front TVs | PowerPoint Operation |
| Cameras | Switch between Camera 1 and Camera 2 | Camera Operation |
| Foyer sound | Listen at the foyer speakers | Foyer Mix |
Microphone batteries
The handheld and headset microphones run on batteries. Always check the battery level before the service and replace if low. See Battery Replacement.
Step 10 — Start the livestream (at 9:25am)¶
Do this a few minutes before the service begins.
- On the StreamDeck, press the Start Stream button.
- Watch for confirmation that the stream is live (the button or RodeCaster screen will indicate it is streaming).
- Open the YouTube channel on a phone or the PC to confirm the stream appears.
➡️ Full steps: RodeCaster Video
Start the stream a little early
Start the livestream at 9:25am — a few minutes before the 9:30am service — so online viewers do not miss the opening. You can have a holding slide showing until the service begins.
You are ready¶
Once sound, slides, cameras and the livestream are all confirmed working, you are ready for the service. Next: Running a Service.
